The Collaborative Space is home of MsLIGHT Collaborative & the production house of MsLIGHT Festival, it is housed in MSUs’ School of Architect 5thYear School, downtown Jackson.
MsLIGHT Collaborative facilitates & enables innovative, creative, collaborative projects through its’ programs & experts network, bringing together disciplines, philosophies, ethnicities, skills, knowledge, countries & most importantly our communities. It is the first of its’ kind in Jackson & Mississippi, & it is tailored to the needs of this unique community through community conversations & committees who keep us informed, accountable & grounded.
MsLIGHT Collaborative believes that creativity is not only found in an art studio or at a writers desk, but it is found in the science laboratories, the factories, the schools, local businesses, your neighbors garage or the kid next doors bedroom. Most importantly though, is the ultimate creativity that happens when skills & ideas are brought together & given unbridled freedom to explore & create.
The Collaborative Space is supported by an incredible network of 300+ like-minded people. The Space consists of a 2-story studio, 2 galleries, offices, 2 meeting rooms & a presentation space.
The Space houses an in-house S.T.E.A.M team of advisors which includes: 2 artists, 3 programmers, 1 electrician, 2 electronic engineers, 1 lighting designer, 1 textile specialist, numerous architects, 2 scientists, 1 curator, 2 engineers, 1 inventor, 1 community leader & facilitator.
It is a richly creative, inspiring & modern space that welcomes & supports all like-minded persons. It is also a secured space.
The Space is free to use for all members of the Mississippi S.T.E.A.M community as long as the members event is in keeping with the beliefs & mission of the Collaborative. (see website for booking details).
THE COLLABORATIVE SPACE
The Collaborative Space is a Creative Tech & S.T.E.A.M. incubator (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) focused on generating & nurturing new ways of thinking & doing through collaboration throughout our community. It is a safe space to explore & share the skills, knowledge & talent that we already have in our State, leveraging & deepening them through collaborative projects & opening up new opportunities. This takes shape through the Education & Outreach program, the Collaborative Immersion Program & the LIGHT Festival.
It exists because of a volunteer group of 400 S.T.E.A.M., S.T.E.M. & Maker experts that share our mission: To create equity in S.T.E.A.M. education across our community, empowering our current & future workforce, & raising the bar for all our innovators across the State.
